As one of Duke’s Interdisciplinary Graduate Education Collaboratives, the Society‑Centered AI (SCAI) IGEC fosters a new generation of scholars prepared to shape the future of AI in ways that advance human flourishing. Bringing together expertise from Philosophy and Ethics, Computer Science and Engineering, and the Social Sciences, SCAI offers an interdisciplinary graduate certificate, competitive doctoral training and fellowships, and a vibrant intellectual community dedicated to understanding—and improving—the relationship between AI and society.
Amid rapid advances in generative AI and machine learning, the SCAI IGEC equips scholars with the technical, ethical, and empirical tools needed to design, evaluate, and govern AI systems that reflect human values and promote equitable outcomes across populations.
